Uploaded | This story was written a long time ago in 1868. Many of the ideas in this book did not seem possible to those who read it then.
Uploaded | We see a lot of whales. Ned wants to hunt them. But Captain Nemo says no.
Uploaded | We run into icy waters. The Nautilus is stuck. If we go under the ice we need to have enough air in the submarine for many days.
Uploaded | We explore a nearby island. There are penguins. The next day we find seals and walruses.
Uploaded | We go back under the ice. But we are not able to come back to the top. We can not get air!
Uploaded | I have an idea. We will boil water. Water will get hot. We will pump the hot water outside to melt the ice.
Uploaded | It is hard work. It takes many days to melt the ice so we can move. We are running out of air.
Uploaded | We finally break through the ice. The Nautilus makes it to the top of the water. We open the hatch and breathe fresh air.
Uploaded | We are in warmer waters now. Ned is still thinking about escaping. He wants to leave the submarine.
Uploaded | We don’t see much of Captain Nemo these days. He stays in a different part of the submarine.
Uploaded | I spend my time looking out the window of the submarine. I like to look at the fish and the plants.
Uploaded | Ned sees a squid. It is an ocean animal with a long body, large head and eyes, eight arms, and two tentacles.
Uploaded | We see a very, very big squid out the window! I scream! Ned calls it a frightening beast.
Uploaded | The Nautilus goes to the top of the water. A squid pulls open our hatch! Ned chops off its tentacles.
Uploaded | More squid come into the submarine! We fight them with axes. Sadly the last squid takes one of the crew.
Uploaded | Captain Nemo is sad. He cries because one of his crew was taken by the squid. We don’t see much of him for many days.
Uploaded | Conseil and I study the many fish and plant life out the window. Ned still wants to leave. He wants to make a plan to escape.
Uploaded | Ned wants me to tell Captain Nemo that we want to leave. He wants me to ask him to let us off of the submarine.
Uploaded | I tell Captain Nemo that Ned wants to leave. He said no! We may try to escape. Captain Nemo won’t talk anymore.
Uploaded | The Captain says he is writing down everything. The last man on the submarine will share this with the world.
Uploaded | A bad storm has started. We can’t try to escape now. The Nautilus has to go underwater to stay safe from the storm. |
