Uploaded This story was written a long time ago in 1868. Many of the ideas in this book did not seem possible then.
Uploaded Captain Nemo tells us we are going to look for two famous shipwrecks. These ships have sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
Uploaded The Nautilus gets stuck on a reef. It is made from rocks.
Uploaded Ned, Conseil and I take the lifeboat to a nearby island to explore.
Uploaded On this island we drink coconut milk. We eat bananas and vegetables. We go back the next day for more.
Uploaded But we are chased by islanders! They shoot arrows at us. They come out to the Nautilus in canoes and try to capture us.
Uploaded We got away! Captain Nemo got the Nautilus off of the reef and we are going again.
Uploaded Sometimes at night we go up to the top of the water. The sky is beautiful. There are many stars.
Uploaded Captain Nemo locks us in our rooms. He gives us food with powder that makes us go to sleep.
Uploaded When we woke up something bad had happened. Captain Nemo asks if I could help a man. I could not. He died.
Uploaded The next morning we go exploring. Captain Nemo buries the man here underwater. “Away from men and sharks”, he says.
Uploaded We have another adventure. Captain Nemo asks if we want to go look for pearls. There will be sharks, he warns. We say yes.
Uploaded Pearls grow in oysters. Pearls are valuable. People will buy them. Captain Nemo shows us a large oyster growing a large pearl.
Uploaded We see lots of sharks! We see a man looking for pearls. We save him from the sharks. Captain Nemo gives him some pearls.
Uploaded We see more unusual sea animals. This is called a dugong.
Uploaded Ned is done. He is tired. He wants off the ship. But Captain Nemo says no one can leave.
Uploaded It is getting very hot in the Nautilus. Captain Nemo says we are floating over underwater volcanoes.
Uploaded Captain Nemo has gold! He found gold at the bottom of the ocean.
Uploaded Conseil, Ned and I think about leaving. Should we escape? It could be dangerous to try to leave. We stay for now.
