Uploaded This story was written a long time ago in 1868. Many of the ideas in this book did not seem possible then.
Uploaded I am Pierre. I am with Conseil, my servant, and Ned, a whale-hunter. We have been pulled into this metal whale in the ocean.
Uploaded We don’t know it yet, but we are on a submarine. It is the first one ever. We are under the ocean.
Uploaded Men wearing strange suits come into the room. They speak to us but we can’t understand what they say. Then they leave.
Uploaded We are cold. We are hungry. A man brings us clothes and fish to eat. We worry about what will happen next.
Uploaded A man named Captain Nemo comes to our room. He knows our names. He says we can’t leave the submarine.
Uploaded I am interested. Maybe I will see new things in this underwater tour of the ocean. I will write about what I find.
Uploaded Captain Nemo shows us around the submarine. It is named the Nautilus. It has a library.
Uploaded The Nautilus has a museum room with famous paintings. It has many things that Captain Nemo has collected.
Uploaded It has a special small boat. It can be used in an emergency if they need to leave the submarine.
Uploaded Captain Nemo is proud of his submarine. It is a secret. It can go under the water. It can go on top of the water.
Uploaded A sliding door opens to show a big window. We can see into the ocean. We can see a lot of fish and sea animals.
Uploaded Captain Nemo invites us to go hunting underwater. He has invented a special suit to wear. You can breathe under water.
Uploaded These suits were new to us. Should we try it? Ned says no. Conseil and I say yes!
Uploaded In our suits we can walk in the water. We walk to an underground forest. It is called Crespo Island.
Uploaded Captain Nemo hunts for food. Everything we eat comes from the ocean. He gets an otter for our dinner.
Uploaded Captain Nemo throws me to the ground! We are quiet. Sharks swim over us. They don’t see us. We are safe.
