 Uploaded This story was written by Kate DiCamillo. It is about a girl named Opal and a dog named Winn-Dixie.
 Uploaded That night there is a storm. Winn-Dixie is afraid! He howls and runs around the house. He will not stop!
 Uploaded When the storm stops Winn-Dixie is quiet. Preacher tells Opal they need to watch Winn-Dixie when it storms.
 Uploaded The next morning Opal and Winn-Dixie go to the pet store. Opal starts sweeping.
 Uploaded Mr. Otis plays his guitar. The animals love music! They are out of their cages. They are listening.
 Uploaded Some boys say mean things to Opal. They tell her she should not be friends with Gloria Dump.
 Uploaded Opal tells Gloria about the mean boys. Gloria thinks maybe they want to be friends but don’t know what to say.
 Uploaded Gloria tells Opal stories. She shows her a tree in the backyard. Gloria hangs bottles from the trees.
 Uploaded Gloria's tree reminds her to make good choices. She says to think how people are now and not what they did before you knew them.
 Uploaded Opal is having a nice summer. She and Winn-Dixie go to the library. Miss Franny tells them stories.
 Uploaded At the library Miss Franny tells a story. It is about her great-grandfather a long, long time ago.
 Uploaded He built a candy factory. He made candy called Littmus Lozenges. Everyone knew about it. It had a special ingrediant.
 Uploaded Opal tasted the candy. She felt happy and sad. Miss Franny said the candy makes you feel happy and a little sad.
 Uploaded Opal wants to read a book to Gloria. Gloria said her eyes don’t let her read anymore. Miss Franny gives her one.
 Uploaded On the way to Gloria’s house Opal saw one of the mean boys. She decided to be nice and wave. He waved back!
 Uploaded Opal gives Gloria a lozenge. What does it taste like? It makes Gloria happy and sad too.
 Uploaded The next morning Opal gives Otis a lozenge. It makes him sad. He thinks of jail.
 Uploaded Otis used to play his guitar in the street for money. A policeman told him to stop. He did not stop. He went to jail.
 Uploaded Opal tells Gloria about the boy who waved at her. They agree that lots of people are lonely.
 Uploaded Opal wants to have a party at Gloria’s house. Gloria says OK, but we must invite the boys.
 Uploaded Opal invites Preacher, Miss Franny, Sweetie Pie, Otis and the mean boys to party.
